About

Who made this?
I, Olly, made this. I majored in math in college, and hoped to go to graduate school, but was prevented by deteriorating mental and physical health. I’m now in my late 30s and have been unable to do any math for nearly 15 years because of the same health issues. I want very much to get back into it, though, partly because it is the thing I have loved most in my life and partly because I want to find some work as a math tutor. This will require a great deal of review, as disuse has left my math knowledge thoroughly Swiss-cheesed.

What is this for?
This blog exists for me to track the progress of my math review and share anything I create along the way. For me, math has always been something communicated to others, whether my professors via problem sets, my peers while working together on undergraduate research, or my students when I worked as a tutor in the past. I think I will find it motivating to have a way to share the math I am relearning, as well.

What’s a renewal equation?
A renewal equation is a type of equation used in a branch of probability theory called renewal theory. It’s not something I understand, but it was such a perfect title for this blog that I couldn’t resist it. I hope to learn about it someday.
